There’s something special about hearing the words, “Welcome home.”

Home is where we are known, we are safe, and where we belong. For years, Shade has worked to create that sense of belonging for children with albinism and other vulnerabilities, led by Psalm 68:6: “God sets the lonely in families.”

This summer, we have the incredible opportunity to live out that calling in a new way by purchasing a house!

Help us raise $135,000 to begin the process of purchasing, preparing, and furnishing this home.

Why a Home?

Over the years, our hearts have been broken for children who desperately want to attend Shade School but live too far away, and little ones with albinism in remote villages who are at risk of harm. We knew that, if we had a place for them to live, their stories could be drastically changed for the better. And now we have the opportunity to do just that.

Our vision is to create a family-style home where children can live near Shade School, with caring house parents providing daily encouragement, helping with homework, praying with children before bed, and ensuring they receive nutritious meals each day.

For many of our students, getting an education comes with real barriers:

Safety — Children with albinism often face violence and discrimination in their communities.
Distance — Some students live too far from Shade to travel each day, making it difficult to obtain a quality education.
Economics — Financial hardship at home can make stability and consistent schooling difficult to maintain.
Family instability — Loss, illness, or family breakdown can leave children without the support they need to thrive.

Meet Our Students

This project isn’t just about numbers and facts, it’s about the real students who will benefit from this home. Here are a few examples of current Shade students who could benefit from having a safe and secure living space.

Write a New Story for Shade Students

Over the coming months, our first step is to purchase the house. We will then prepare it to welcome its first children. That means furnishing rooms, buying beds and mosquito nets, equipping the kitchen, and creating study spaces. Every gift moves us closer to opening the doors. Will you help us welcome Shade students home?

Questions and Answers

Q. Why purchase a house instead of building one?

Purchasing an existing home allows us to begin to house children much sooner while also establishing a ministry presence in town. While we plan to build homes and dormitories on our land in the future, this house provides an immediate opportunity to meet current needs and serve children and families today.

Q. Where is the house located?

The property is located in Shinyanga town, within easy reach of Shade School, medical facilities, and other essential services.

Q. What makes this property a good fit?

The home offers ample living space, a secure walled compound, and the flexibility to serve multiple needs while requiring minimal renovations.

Q. When could the house begin serving children?

Because the home is already built and in good condition, it could begin serving children shortly after purchase and preparation.

Q. Who will take care of the children?

The children living in the home will be cared for by dedicated house parents who will live on-site. Beyond providing daily care and supervision, they will offer mentorship, spiritual guidance, and the stability of a family environment where children are known, loved, and encouraged to thrive.

Q. How did this opportunity come about?

This opportunity came through a long-standing relationship with the home’s owner, who has supported and believed in Shade’s mission for many years. When he made the decision to relocate, he approached us about purchasing the property because he wanted it to continue serving God’s purposes. As we prayed, sought counsel, and carefully evaluated the opportunity, we became convinced that this was a unique door God was opening for Shade’s future ministry.
